Most every air show features a jet car that races a biplane. While it’s not one of my top ten favorite sights while at the shows, it is eagerly anticipated by the younger crowds. They love the flame and smoke the jet car bellows, and they should, it is a great display.

The F4 Phantom story is almost as sad as the F-14 Tomcat’s story, almost. The F4 was in service far longer, so being retired in 1996 should have come as no surprise, although it didn’t make many aviation fans happy either.

One stop on my most recent trip to Vegas, was the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Yes, Photography by Hank Plumley likes to travel ! Though it was a long drive from Vegas to Pasadena, the Rose Bowl grounds at sunrise was well worth the trip.

During the recent Vegas trip, I planned to travel to Edwards Air Force Base. Once my friend heard we’d be in California, it was a MUST we travel to the Rose Bowl and snap some pics. So that turned a one day trip into an over-nighter.

The following are a few snapshots of the highlights on the way to Pasadena. Mind you, there will be a Rose Bowl posts as well as an Edwards Air Force Base post.
